What are Your Strengths and Weaknesses in English?

In terms of English and the fields of reading and writing, I have a number of skills as well as weaknesses. My strengths are that I enjoy reading, that I have a solid understanding of language and how to use it correctly, and that I can spell rather well. I also recognize and respect the importance of English in everyday life. My flaws include a dislike for writing, a lack of a good writing process for when I do have to write, and a proclivity to delay when presented with an English project. My greatest English strength, I believe, is my love of reading.

Curling up with a good book, especially a good murder mystery or suspense novel, is one of my favorite activities. I’m fairly good at extracting information and comprehending the author’s meaning from the work I’m reading. My passion of reading has also helped me get a larger perspective of the world and increase my knowledge. Reading for pleasure is a fantastic method to learn new things without even realizing it! Another of my English talents is that I am well-versed in grammar and word usage.

This is something I learned as a child but have gotten better at over time, thanks to my work environment. Whether you’re trying to get a better job or persuade a firm to adopt a service, utilizing proper language can make the difference between success and failure. This covers things like correct language, punctuation, and grammar standards like subject and verb agreement. The purpose of communication is to be understood, and appropriate grammar is an important part of that. In English, the ability to spell is also a valuable asset.

When it came to spelling in school, I was fortunate in that I had a natural talent for it. For a spelling test, I never had to study much, if at all. This comes in handy in my job when I’m writing memos and proposals for clients. And, while I like Microsoft Word’s spell check and auto correct features, they have “dulled” some of my proficiency in this area. In everyday life, English and writing are crucial and necessary. Every day, both written and spoken English is employed. It is an extremely essential topic because it is a mode of communication that is used all over the world.

What would happen if firms didn’t have some form of base communication? They were not going to do it. Everyone uses reading and writing, from letters to novels to resumes. My greatest English flaw is that I despise writing. I tend to have a hard time expressing myself and putting my thoughts down on writing. I despise writing about personal experiences in particular. The biggest reason for this, I believe, is that I am a private person who does not want my feelings to “spill” out on paper for everybody to see. My writing process is another element that contributes to writing being one of my shortcomings. Actually, I don’t have one at all!

I usually, but not always, wait until the night before the paper is due to begin brainstorming and writing out my ideas. This is hilarious because for every other subject, I have a set study period that I adhere to religiously. Maybe it’s because I despise writing that I don’t intend to do it. My lack of a writing process exacerbates another of my flaws: procrastination and a lack of motivation (when it comes to English). The writing process is often tiresome and mind numbing when I am obliged to write a lengthy paper on a subject that is boring or unimportant to me as a person.

I can ponder the subject in my head for hours and come up with nothing! “I’m never going to get this done!” was all I could think. After considering and considering various of my English strengths and weaknesses, I believe the best course of action for me is to continue to use and practice activities that utilize my existing strong skills. Making time in my busy schedule for brainstorming and critical thinking could be the first step toward overcoming my English deficiencies, which all spring from a dislike of writing.
