An infographic is a graphic or visual representation of information. It combines pictures, diagrams, charts, graphics and writing (just as we often find on advertisements or websites). The purpose of this assignment is to create an infographic that provides an illustrated outline of your essay.
It will allow you and your reviewers to visually and verbally understand your argument, including the thesis and structure of your argument, main supporting ideas, approach, and sources. You will then post it on Moodle forum and get written feedback from the class which will help you strengthen your final essay.
Task: Prepare a 1-page infographic. You can use any software you like to create your infographic, or you can create it manually and then scan the page one you have finished. Some free software you can use: Adobe Spark, Canva, Visme, Freepik, Easel, Infogram, Google Charts, Venngage, and Snappa.
If you prefer to work in a lower tech medium, you may also follow the same instructions below to prepare it with markers/colored pencils, then take a picture and upload the picture to Moodle. Your infographic should include both graphics and words that work together to explain key ideas of your final research essay.
Be sure to include your thesis as well as any quotes that crystalize or illustrate an important aspect your argument. You should pick graphics that demonstrate key ideas/arguments in your essay more effectively or clearly that you could in a few words. You should complement the visuals with some brief written elements. Also think about placement of visuals/text, colors etc. to maximize the “readability” and the impact of your infographic.

The goal is to give a “picture” of the outline or structure of your argument. Examples will be posted on Moodle. This assignment is worth 15% of your grade – 10% for your Infographic and 5% for your peer review (which is part of the general 40% grade). You will also be expected to be able to answer questions about your Infographic during class time.
Infographic is due Wednesday December 8th before the start of class on Moodle Forum. We will be going over some during class time together on that day. Peer reviews are due on Wednesday December 15th before class time (on Moodle Forum – specific instructions for this assignment will provided on Moodle).
