- Select a nursing practice problem of interest to use as the focus of your research. Start with the patient population and identify a clinical problem or issue that arises from the patient population. In 200–250 words, provide a summary of the clinical issue.
- Following the PICOT format, write a PICOT question in your selected nursing practice problem area of interest. The PICOT question should be applicable to your proposed capstone project (the project students must complete during their final course in the RN-BSN program of study).

Moncada, & Mire, (2017) report that despite of the efforts made towards preventing falls, falls still accounted for 2.8 million emergency department visits annually and up to 25% of falls cause serious injuries such as fractures and brain injuries. Studies further show that 34% of patients’ ≥ 65 years old, 50% of non-institutionalized octogenarians, 26% of inpatients and 43% of patients in nursing homes, experience at least one fall a year (Aranda‐Gallardo et al., 2015).

The prevalence of falls increases with age as more women are susceptible to falls compared to same-aged men. The reduction of falls increases treatment efficiency, reduces care burden and dependence on care givers, and reduces the overall costs of healthcare which subsequently leads to better healthcare outcomes.
