Solution

Effective communication is beneficial to both the patient and the healthcare professional. To foster and sustain good interactions with patients, communication has to account for the patient’s characteristics and the factors that define the patients’ current well-being. For Mr. JC, socioeconomic factors play a critical role in determining the patient’s attitude to care. Costs are seen as a barrier to the patient, and it is essential to establish cost-effective approaches to managing the patient’s condition.

Secondly, cultural beliefs on dependence have also to be accounted for in working with this patient. The patient has expressed the concern of feeling that he is a burden to his daughter. I will first use the concept of active listening to try and understand the patients’ point of view, ask open-ended questions, and show respect to the patient. This will also ensure that I learn about the cultural factors that influence the patient’s beliefs.

I will also be keen on the patient’s perception of caregiving and the best way to work with his caregiver to maximize the potential impacts. I will also focus on emphasizing the need for regular physical activity to foster self-dependence and improve the well-being of the patient. To ensure I understand well the answers provided by the patient, I explored the patient’s understanding of his condition.
